2023 Research Festival is back, after a 3-yr hiatus.
All events will be in Building 10, unless otherwise specified.
Workshops NIH Library and FAES Classroom 1&2 combined– one- to four-hour workshops held concurrently from: Stigma Interest Group; Bioinformatics Training Group day 1 of 2; Cohort Analytics Core; Single Cell Omics; Molecular Graphics in Blender, and Patent Interest Group.
NIH Resource Information Fair, South Lobby – Representatives from numerous NIH groups will staff information tables. Make sure to stop by and take a look.
Lecture Session I, Lipsett– Will highlight the work of NIH Independent Research Scholars. This two-hour session will feature six speakers.

Animal Care and Use Tribute ceremony (South Lawn)
Join us for the 7th Animal Tribute Ceremony, organized by the NIH Office of Animal Care and Use. This special event aims to honor and recognize the invaluable contribution of research animals in advancing scientific discoveries at the NIH. The ceremony will feature engaging speakers who will share stories highlighting the significant role animals play in medical research. Attendees will also participate in a touching flower ceremony to pay homage to these remarkable creatures. Following the service, there will be an opportunity to mingle and enjoy light refreshments.

Green Labs Fair, South Lobby- The Green Labs Fair features a variety of information on green products, green practices and environmental initiatives that you can use to make your lab green.

National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Mini-Symposium, Lipsett
The celebration of NIH intramural research continues on Thursday, September 21, with our annual National Academy of Sciences (NAS) Mini-Symposium. Each year, we strive to recognize our NIH investigators recently elected to the NAS. The pandemic prevented us from meeting last year, so this year we will feature five NIH PIs elected over the past two years. We will present five 30-minute talks. The speakers will be, in order of appearance, Julie Segre, Ph.D. (NHGRI), Michael Lichten, Ph.D. (NCI/CCR), Andre Nussenzweig, Ph.D. (NCI/CCR), John O’Shea, M.D. (NIAMS), and Deborah Morrison, Ph.D. (NCI/CCR). Come hear them speak about their extraordinary and inspiring research journey and career.
16th Annual Philip S. Chen Jr. Ph.D. Distinguished Lecture on Innovation and Technology Transfer, Lipsett
Speaker: Carlos Zarate, M.D., NIMH
Established in 2006, the Philip S. Chen Jr. Ph.D. Distinguished Lecture on Innovation and Technology Transfer honors Dr. Chen's 41-year NIH career and his remarkable, diverse, and creative contributions to the NIH, especially to its Intramural Research Program and to the field of technology transfer.
