Abstract

Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) is a popular sequence search tool. Many users find the command-line applications very useful, but often want to search a taxonomic subset of a BLAST database. A new version of the BLAST database allows easy limiting of BLAST searches by taxonomy as well as faster retrieval of sequences by accession. We present search examples that demonstrate the power of this approach as well as details on how to obtain and use the new BLAST database version.
