From NIH Bench to Biotech Bedside
Michael Zasloff Dean, Research and Translational Science
Georgetown University Medical Center

In 1987 Dr. Zasloff, then Chief of the Human Genetics Branch of the NICHD, discovered "Magainin," a family of antimicrobial peptides in the skin of Xenopus laevis. Dr. Zasloff will discuss what followed, including the creation of a biotech company, the development of several new drugs, and scientific explorations in the area of innate immunity.

The NIH Office of Education and the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health co-sponsor the Job Fair for Postdoctoral Fellows held annually in conjunction with the Research Festival. NIH postdoctoral fellows who are completing their research training and seeking permanent employment will have the opportunity to meet with a number of representatives from industry, government, the academic community, and nonprofit organizations.
