Abstract

The Mouse Imaging Facility (MIF) is a shared, intramural resource that provides the NIH intramural community access to state-of-art modern medical imaging methods optimized for small animal imaging studies. The MIF is administered by NINDS and the MIF Subcommittee of the NMR Center Steering Committee provides oversight for MIF activities.  The MIF currently offers the following medical imaging modalities:   •                High resolution magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for in-vivo and ex-vivo studies,  •                High resolution micro X-ray computed tomography (Micro-CT) for in-vivo and ex-vivo studies,  •                High resolution ultrasound imaging with color flow Doppler and photoacoustic optical imaging capability,  •                Optical imaging that includes Bioluminescence, fluorescence and laser Doppler imaging. Radiographic coregistration is available, as well as the MARS Multimodal Animal Rotation System for semi-3D coregistration. The MIF supports the imaging of mice, rats and other animal models with these modalities. Complimentary to imaging, MIF can also measure systemic blood pressure, pulse oximetry, and electrocardiogram (ECG).  We present some results from the various imaging modalities supported in the MIF to provide an overview of our available resources. We invite investigators to apply for access to our scanners. Please visit our website for details http://intranet.nmrf.nih.gov.
