NIH RESEARCH FESTIVAL October 10-13, 2000
Plenary Session 1

Wednesday, October 11
8:30 a.m.- 10 a.m.
Plenary Session 1

NITRIC OXIDE: MOLECULAR PHYSIOLOGY, PATHOLOGY, AND THERAPEUTICS
Chaired by Alan N. Schechter, NIDDK

This session will cover recent studies on the molecular, cellular and physiological effects of NO and evidence for pathological states due to decreased NO production. Topics covered include pathophysiological abnormalities of endothelial nitric oxide synthesis, NO transport and delivery by hemoglobin, and NO and reactive oxygen species signaling and gene expression. Therapeutic implications of these mechanisms will be discussed.
