Molecular Brain: Collection and Mapping of Transcripts to Different Regions of the Mouse Brain from Publicly Available Resources, Using Various Bioinformatics Tools |
|
In addition to the fMRI mapping, there have been a number of efforts to map transcripts by in situ hybridization to different regions of the brain. However, mapping of the transcripts, proteins and signal transduction pathways at the molecular level has not been realized. This proposal is to integrate these molecular data to the brain morphology. Publicly available gene expression information will be mapped to different CNS regions for easy interrogation in any cell type, disease or function. Initially the data could be arranged in database format to query in a manner similar to Allen Brain Atlas, searched either as gene, biological process or region. Later, it could be presented in a graphical format to zoom into specific regions of the brain. As a prototype, the genes expressed during the learning process in rodent amygdala have been collected from microarrays and other transcriptome analysis resources and have been linked to signal transduction pathways. Microarray data depositories, gene ontology as well as gene2pubmed database at NCBI were some of the resources used in this prototype research. |
